The Ontario Home Energy Savings Plan grants are scheduled to end on March 30, 2011.
This program is designed to encourage Canadians to undertake energy-saving initiatives in their homes such as upgrading their furnace, having new high-efficiency windows and doors installed, and getting attic insulation blown. There are many other grants available, each with varying amounts of refund money.
Before any retrofits are done, you are required to have an audit on your home by a licensed service organization. You can then go ahead with the upgrades you wish to perform. After completing these upgrades, you then get a second audit to verify the work has been done.
If you have already had your first audit done and have completed your retrofits, don't forget to complete the program by scheduling your second (post-retrofit) audit before the end of the program. Homeowners who had their first audit done before March 31, 2010 are eligible for both federal and provincial grants. Those who had their first audit done after this date are only able to receive grants from the provincial government.
You still have time to book both a first and a second audit to take advantage of the program. If you need a new furnace, insulation in your attic or walls, or are buying new toilets, windows, or doors, make sure you call a qualified service organization and get your audit done before these installations occur.
Just make sure you get the second audit done by March 31, 2011.
