The Town of Oakville had much to consider when deciding what to do with the land the current Oakville Hospital sits on, south of Macdonald Road between Reynolds Street and Allan Street. An agreement with the Ontario government means that the land will transfer to the Town once the land is vacant, which is expected to be towards the end of 2015.
- A community centre with park area
- Integration of the former Oakville Trafalgar High School building into the new community centre
- Residential development
The new community centre in southeast Oakville will include a 25-metre indoor pool, outdoor park facilities, and multi-generational active living spaces. Two thirds of the cost will come from the Town's reserve fund and one third funded out of development costs. The Town of Oakville has allocated approx. $25 million for this project which is set to begin in 2019.
In addition to the above, discussion regarding the opportunity for medical uses with the Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) for a service centre is ongoing.
