Get top dollar for your home with these simple staging tips – Pet odour can be a stinky issue for buyers (PART 2)

Household pets are a great addition to your home and family, but lingering pet odours are not.  Especially when you’re selling your home.  Many pet owners just aren’t aware of the tell tale odour pets leave behind, because they’ve grown accustomed to the smell.
Be sure to vacuum and clean thoroughly before every showing.  You might want to try a commercial pet spray or cleaner if regular cleaning doesn’t help.  (There are also great products available for removing urine stains and pet hair at most pet supply stores).
Some prospective buyers might even be allergic to certain animals, so it’s important to tell them you’re a pet owner before they enter your home.  I also suggest to my clients to remove their pets from the home before a showing.  The bottom line is you want to make prospective buyers feel at home in your home.  Wouldn’t you rather welcome buyers with the sweet aroma of just-baked muffins?  Instead of well, you know … I would!
