Seven Sisters Real Estate Listings and Information
Seven Sisters is located about 90 km northeast of the city of Winnipeg and is a community in the Rural Municipality of Whitemouth. It is the location of the Manitoba Hydro Generating Station, which is their largest producer of electricity on the Winnipeg River. It is fondly and respectfully described by engineers who designed and built it as the river's mightiest generating station.
You can launch a boat either above or below the hydro dam. Going east of the dam takes you through lakes like Otter Falls, and Nutimik all the way to Slave Falls. Going north, you can boat past Lake Lac Du Bonnet up to McArthur falls. Seven Sisters is the name given a series of seven rapids on the Winnipeg River by fur-trading voyageurs. The hydro dam here was built on the fifth set of rapids. The dam raised water levels and submerged the first four rapids upstream. Two small communities near hydro's townsite were nicknamed Tin Town and Frog Alley (because it was swampy). They eventually joined the hydro townsite and adopted the Seven Sisters name so residents could get hydro hookup.
