"Starting next year, non-stop flights between Kelowna and Toronto will take off.
Air Canada announced earlier this week that starting January 5, 2009 that it will be restarting its weekend flights between Kelowna and Toronto during the winter ski season.
Michael J. Ballingall of Big White ski resort says this is very good news for skiers.
"Our lifeline to Bay Street is through Air Canada. Their customers love to holiday on points. When you can combine points and cash to get the family to our resorts, everyone in the food chain wins. Finding a deal is on every-one's mind, especially in Toronto and Bay Street today," says Ballingall.
The Kelowna-Toronto flight will depart at 11:55 a.m., arriving in Toronto at 7:05 p.m. Kelowna time.
The reverse flight will leave Toronto at 9:15 a.m. and arrive in Kelowna at 11:04 a.m. Kelowna time."
I can tell you first hand that the regular flights into Kelowna International from large markets such as Toronto have made a significant impact on the local economy. Big White Ski Resort has certainly made a strategic move in luring some major air carriers to service the Okanagan Valley. The increased traffic over the winter months can be directly attributed to the tremendous powder skiing to be had at Big White and Silver Star Ski Resorts. So as the old adage goes..."Come one, come all."
