Harvey Ave aka Highway 97 slated for commuter lanes by this fall
If you have ever driven through the City of Kelowna during the morning or afternoon rushes then this news might make you smile a bit! A 14.4 million dollar road expansion to six lane Highway 97 for HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) is scheduled to begin in April, with completion expected by the fall. The interesting twist on these HOV lanes will be the fact they are going to be on the outside curb lanes and not the median or interior lanes as normally found in the Lower Mainland. This approach should help to move traffic more efficiently through the heart of the city.
The widening for eastbound traffic will be from Water Street to Highway 33 and for westbound traffic from Highway 33 to Ellis Street.
Vehicles with at least two occupants and transit buses will receive the nod to utilize the new lanes.
