Sports Arena receives Kelowna City Council initial stamp of approval

City Council has approved a Sports Arena in the downtown core and close to the Cultural District of Kelowna. The main opposition seems to be the structure itself. The artist conception below looks more like an outdoor tent than a sports facility but there is definitely some merit to this type structure and that would be cost! There is no doubt that the downtown area could benefit from a multi-use complex such as this. With citizens concerned about "after hours" activities of people in the downtown area this seems like a very logical step in the right direction!

Despite objections from staff, Kelowna Council has unanimously approved a temporary sports complex for the city's north end.
The proposed complex, which could accommodate ball hockey, basketball, lacrosse, floor and roller hockey, would be built on Ellis Street, north of Clement, next to the CN train station.
Current Planning Supervisor, Danielle Noble, told council the 'Coverall Low Slope' building is the type often used in agricultural operations such as for storage, indoor equestrian arenas or bulk agricultural crops.
