Walmart slams HD DVD format and embraces Bluray as of June 2008
Many people have wondered (myself included) as to what the outcome of the war of HD DVD versus Bluray would end up being. Today, Walmart announced on its company blog that all 7200 stores worldwide will no longer carry HD DVD as of June 2008. The announcement all but puts HD into an out of control tailspin and ultimately into a soon to be forgotten format! I deliberately waited to make sure I didn't make a wrong guess to who would win out. Of course it isn't over until it is over but the writing is pretty much on the wall. Only giant film companies Dreamworks and Paramount are left supporting the HD format. It would take a miracle to bring HD back to the forefront of consumers minds. At the end of the day only one could stand and I think most buyers felt that the Sony's Bluray format was always going to win out. Now, let's see what happens to Bluray prices over the next few months before this movie buff makes the leap into the "next generation" of the cinematic home experience.
Sincerely,
Jason Neumann
