Every year The District of West Kelowna wants to look its best and with a little help from local residents and businesses they continue to impress contest judges and showcase the natural beaiuty of their city.
The West Kelowna Communities in Bloom Committee worked with Master Gardeners Heather Doheny, Hermann Matis, Imelda Nagel and Pat Zander to determine winners in eight categories in this year’s Communities in Bloom Most Beautiful Contest.
Judges had to evaluate the community contest entries based on eight key criteria: Tidiness, environmental awareness, community involvement, natural and cultural heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscaped areas, floral displays, and turf and groundcover areas.
I'm sure it goes without saying it is an extremely difficult task to determine the overall award winners!
This year's winners are:
Most Beautiful Small Personal Garden — Marg Fostyk
Most Beautiful Medium Personal Garden—Duane Robson and David Johnson
Most Beautiful Large Personal Garden – Tasha and Chris Gammel
Most Beautiful Strata — The Pointe
Most Beautiful Business — Norsteel Building Systems Ltd.
Most Beautiful Winery — Quails’ Gate Estate Winery
Most Beautiful Open Category — Whispering Plants Garden Society
Water Wise Award of Merit — Hyslop Family
Honourable Mentions:
Most Beautiful Strata — Sun Village
Most Beautiful Personal Small Garden — Ike and Marlene Zaiss
Results of the District’s participation in the Communities in Bloom competition will be announced at the national awards ceremony in Halifax, N.S. on October 30, 2010. West Kelowna is competing in the 20,001 to 50,000 population category against Campbell River, B.C. Essex, O.N. Medicine Hat, A.B. and Westmount, Q.C.
Congrats again to all the West Kelowna contest winners and best wishes as they await the outcome of the national awards!
Sincerely,
Jason Neumann
