Westside, Westbank is now officially renamed District of West Kelowna
The wait for an official municipal name for the residents of Kelowna's former Westside is almost over. The province of British Columbia is expected to give the green light to the new name "District of West Kelowna". The desire of Westside residents to have their own identity has been a long process. The irony here is that there is nothing too unique to the name as it includes "Kelowna" as part of its name sake.
In my heart and mnd I will still refer to this area as "Westbank" for that it is how I have always known it. I have numerous happy memories of Westbank whether it was going to Old McDonald's Farm or the Westbank Waterslides. Although these two businesses no longer exist and their sites are to be transformed into new development for future residents, I will always remember what was.

It's finally official.
The District of Westside is now officially the District of West Kelowna.
The provincial Cabinet recently approved the municipality's request for the name change.
West Kelowna Mayor, Doug Findlater, says he received the good news from MLA Rick Thorpe Friday morning.
