It's time once again for Westvale Wednesday where I share one of the top 10 things I love about living in Westvale.
#7 The Boardwalk at Ira Needles Blvd.
A recent addition to the Westvale neighbourhood has been the massive 1 million square foot commercial development depicted above. The Boardwalk is located at the end of University Avenue West and Ira Needles Boulevard. The anchor tenants have all opened and consist of Walmart, Lowe's and Empire Theatres. The development is within walking distance of the Westvale neighbourhood. It takes its name from the developers vision of a pedestrian friendly shopping centre with "boardwalks" connecting the stores, offices, banks and restaurants.
The west side of Waterloo, including Westvale, has long been underserved by retail development. The Walkscore of my home in Westvale is 32 which indicates we are car-dependent. The opening of the Boardwalk addresses that as many of the amenities will now be considerably closer. To find out the Walk Score for your home, visit http://walkscore.com. If you are relocating to Waterloo or desire to move to a neighbourhood where you can walk to amenities, feel free to contact me. Whether your home search is in Westvale or elsewhere, together we can develop a plan to make it happen!
