This marks the first in a series of posts detailing the things I love about living in the Westvale subdivision of Waterloo, Ontario. First, a bit of demographic info. The most recent data I could find indicates there are 2176 households and 6549 people living in Westvale(an average of 3 per household). The average household income is $107,011 and the average age of its residents is 36. Now on to the list in no particular order:
#10 Westvale Park better known to residents as Crater Park
Crater Park is pictured above and is at its finest in the winter months. Weather-permitting, there is a wonderful community ice rink. It's a great spot for parents to take their young kids to learn to skate. It's also great for the young-at-heart to lace them up and rekindle their youth.
Pictured above is a tobbagan hill at Crater Park. I believe the City of Waterloo has sought to curb its use due to the safety risk posed by an adjacent stormwater runoff area. Should you choose to use it, please exercise caution.
The activity at Crater Park is considerably quieter once the snow melts. As you can see on the left of the top photo, there is playground equipment for young kids including swings. When my kids were young, we spent countless hours there. Now that they're older, it's a great place to walk our dog.
To access the rink, there are entrances off of Westvale Drive, Valley Ridge Crescent, Appledale Crescent and Clovervalley Court. To get to the tobbagan hill, enter off Old Orchard Place.
This will be a regular Wednesday post. Be sure to check back next week for the #9 of the Top 10 Things I Love About Living in Westvale.
