Top Ten Things I Love About Living In Westvale #6

We had a snowy and bitterly cold week which, I suppose, one has to put up with when living in our great country.   With the promise of warmer weather on the way, here's this week's post on the top 10 things I love about living in Westvale.

#6 Parks and Trails

The Westvale neighbourhood in Waterloo is fortunate to have wonderful trails, parks and greenspace.  Evenings and weekends will see many families walking to one of the parks for recreation activities.  In an earlier post, I made mention of the outdoor skating rink at Westvale Park, better known as Crater Park.  There are 2 other significant parks in Westvale.

The first is Red River Park which stretches from behind Holy Rosary Catholic Elementary School on Thorndale Drive to Westvale Drive almost at the southern limit of the neighbourhood.  Red River Park has a playground for kids near Westvale Gate.  It has wide open spaces for flying a kite, kicking a soccer ball, tobbaganning or just relaxing on a park bench.  It also has a series of trails for running, walking, biking, pushing a stroller, walking to school or, in my case, walking the dog.  Pictured above is our Labrador Retriever named Tilly.

One of the great things about walking a dog in Westvale is the number of other dogs and dog owners you meet.  Tilly is less than a year old and still has an abundance of puppy power.  Invariably, we'll meet another dog owner who will fondly relate how their dog had a similar amount of  energy when younger.  Tilly and I need our exercise and we've found the Westvale neighbourhood accomodating and very dog-friendly.

The other park in Westvale is Westwind Park.  It is located west of Westvale Public School.  It has a fenced ball diamond(which becomes another outdoor rink in winter), playground equipment and trails.  The trails are great for walking Tilly as you rarely have to cross streets to access the parks and schools.  Many crescents and cul-de-sacs in Westvale have a walkway to access one of the parks.

One of the requests I often receive from home buyers is to back on greenspace or parkland.  This provides more privacy, a better view and access to the recreation cited above.  Westvale has an ample supply of homes that back onto greenspace.  If this is on your wish list, or to find out what's for sale in Westvale, feel free to call or email.

If you are moving on, up or out of Westvale, I can help.  Your Westvale neighbourhood professional is just a phone call or email away.  jeff.gingerich@century21.ca or 519-505-4488.
