Landmarks/ Things to do in Caledonia

While visiting Caledonia make sure to visit some of the many historical landmarks such as, The Haldimand House and The Oasis Drive- In. The Haldimand House was built between 1836 and 1842 by James Little. He built it as a Stagecoach Inn and Tavern. The Haldimand House has been used for many different purposes over the many years since it was built. In 1927 the Oasis Drive- In was also built. It is Canada's oldest drive- in and Ontario's oldest fast food establishment. The Oasis is still open today serving residents and visitors with their tasty foot-longs and fresh cut fries, and the Haldimand House is providing a link to the history of Ontario and Canada.

The Old Mill may also be an interest to some, being built in 1846 along with many other mills along the Grand. It is the only water powered Mill left along side the Grand River. It is closed to the public, but come at Christmas time, and see the Mill decorated with thousands of lights and synchronized music. There has been talk about restoring the Mill, but no plans have been decided on so far.

Make sure to check out some of the yearly festivities going on in Caledonia as well, such as, the Canada Day Celebrations and The Home and Garden Show located in the Caledonia Fairgrounds. Another festivity is the Caledonia Stampede Days, brought to you by the Rawhide Rodeo. Argyle Street is shut down for a day, to allow for the festivities, such as pony rides, vendors, sidewalk shopping, food booths, live entertainment and much more. Don't forget about the Caledonia Fair, which comes around every year. Some special events are: craft shows, rides, animals, horse shows, tractor pulls, vendors, and  the much anticipated Smash Up Derby.
