Today is the start of World Pride here in the Toronto area (it runs until June 29) and that started me thinking about some of my clients who have a more personal connection to Pride events. And one thought led to another, and I started thinking about the word "pride" and what it means to people from all walks of life. And you know what? I really, really, really like that word. Really!
For me, the word pride simply means that you are pleased with yourself and what you do. In my real estate life, I'm proud that I can call myself an honourable and ethical REALTOR® and that I do what is best for my clients. Always.
In my private life, I'm proud that my partner and I have been together for 22 years this month. Wow, that's longer than any of my Dad's marriages... (sorry, Dad - but I know he'll laugh). I'm proud of our home - it's not large or extravagant, it's just right. I'm proud of my parents, my siblings and all of my in-laws too. They are all good people, and that's the best feeling ever.
I'm also very, very proud to be Canadian. Our country is voted amongst the top livable countries in the world for a reason. And that reason is us - we are the people who make our country what it is. We are the best neighbours in the world, the most welcoming, the most respectful, the most friendly and the most willing to give a hand where needed. That's what makes us truly Canadian.
So, as the GTA celebrates Pride and then Canada Day, be proud. Be proud of who you are, be proud of what you do, and most of all be happy. We've got a great life here in Canada, eh?
