Bramalea Living

Welcome to living in Bramalea, one of my favourite neighbourhoods in the Greater Toronto Area!  Just 40 minutes drive (outside of rush hours) to downtown Toronto, Bramalea offers convenient highway access, an easy drive to Pearson International Airport, and a lifestyle that is relaxed and easy.  The neighbourhoods are diverse with home styles and price points to match most budgets.  I personally live in Bramalea in the H section, and love the neighbourhood!

Bramalea was built as Canada's first satellite suburban neighbourhood, and is now part of the City of Brampton.  Bramalea is considered to have the general borders of highway 410 to the west, Bovaird Drive to the north, Torbram Rd to the east and Steeles Avenue to the south.  The neighbourhoods in Bramalea are connected to each other via parkland pathways, and were primarily developed by a large real estate company called Bramalea Limited.  Sadly, Bramalea Limited went bankrupt in the mid 1990s after the early 1990s recession.

So, why the letter-sections?  Well, the neighbourhoods were built starting with the "A" section in the late 1950s/early 1960s and most of the streets in the lettered sections start with that letter.  In the A section you'll find street names like Aloma, Algonquin, etc.  In the M section you'll find street names like Mandarin, Morley, etc.  The letter sections continue up until the P section, surrounding Professors Lake.  There is a great blog written by Saul Svirplys, and he's created a map of Bramalea with the letter sections outlined.

At the centre of Bramalea at the southeast corner of Dixie & Queen St E, you'll find the Bramalea City Centre, one of Canada's larger shopping malls.  You'll also find a number of restaurants, a library, Peel Region government buildings, etc.  Amenities such as recreation centres, shopping plazas & grocery stores, parks, etc are plentiful.

Some of the major companies that operate in Bramalea include Rogers Inc., Fiat Chrysler Assembly Plant, Hudson's Bay Corporation, Owens-Illinois, etc.
