Halloween Safety

Plan costumes that are bright and reflective, make sure shoes fit well and that costumes are short enought to prevent tripping, entanglement or contact with flames.

Consider adding reflective tape or to costumes and trick or treat bags

Secure emergency identification(name, address, phone number)discreetly within Halloween attire

Masks can limit or block eyesight so consider non-toxic makeup or a decorated hat as a safe alternative

Make sure to us battery powered lanterns or chemical glo sticks in place of candles in decorations and costumes

Teach children their home phone numbers and how to dial 9-1-1 if they have an emergency or become lost, this is a free call from any phone

Make sure children know the Stop-Drop-Roll should their clothes catch fire

Take extra time to eliminate tripping hazards on porches and walkways, move flower pots, low tree brances, and garden hoses that may prove harmful to young children who are rushing from house to house

Also a reminder its a good time to change batteries on your smoke alarms, be safe and Happy Halloween.
