The local restaurant Catch 22 is a sure hot spot for those who value locally raised and grown products including fresh fish caught directly from the striking waters of Georgian Bay.
Established in 2004, in Collingwood, and relocating in June of 2012 to Wasaga Beach, Catch 22’s main focus is supporting the local community; even the beer on tap is sourced from local suppliers. They offer eight different types of Ontario craft beers, and they also serve local bottled hard ciders.
“I'm a big supporter of anything local, from buying food from local producers and farmers to making donations to local charities. We do what we can. This community has been very good to us and we like to give back whenever possible,” says owner and chef, Bob Bickmore.
Bob spent 25 years in the industry, is classically trained in French cuisine and apprenticed under the tutelage of Josef Vanlanthen. He went from the frying pan into the fire and took over his first kitchen in the position of head chef and since then has worked in numerous restaurants in Mississauga before moving to Wasaga Beach and opening up Catch 22 Fresh Market Grill in Collingwood with his partner Cori Hegmans in 2004. Bob has since relocated to Wasaga Beach, from a 200-seated restaurant to a small and quaint 40 seater.
Why the move? Bob and his partner wanted to retire and a 200-seat restaurant was just too big for him to handle on his own. Bob and his family live in Wasaga and felt the community could use a Catch 22. And how fitting for the community to be able to indulge in locally caught fresh cuisine!
Catch 22 serves up a varied menu of dishes; however, steaks, seafood and fish are what guests order the most. Some popular dishes include seafood stuffed sole, pan-roasted shellfish and steak tartare as well as the local lamb and bison. To die for!
