Georgian Hills Vineyards

Overlooking Georgian Bay is “a vision in the making.”  This new Canadian wine region born in the midst of the apple orchards of Beaver Valley is an added attraction to Ontario's busiest ski resort area at Blue Mountain.

The vision began with tests conducted at four different sites since 1998 by third-generation apple grower, John Ardiel who made it a reality! The testing helped to gain a better understanding of the best potential sites for vineyards, viticulture methods, and grape varieties.

Ardiel has teamed with Collingwood wine marketer, Robert Ketchin and sixth generation Niagara wine maker, Murray Puddicombe.  Georgian Hills Vineyards is already producing wine that’s available at local restaurants including Oliver Bonacini, Simcoe County Grill, Tesoro and Walters Falls Inn.  They’ve been hard at work!  And this time of year, Georgian Hills is ramping up to produce the tastiest ice wine in the region!

Today, Georgian Hills Vineyards produces over twelve tonnes of grapes each year, and the crop aids hybrid and vinifera vines, including chardonnay, riesling, gamay and pinot noir that have been planted at two sites.  Since 2007, twelve acres of vinifera and hybrid vines at Victoria Corners vineyards has been planted and now, a full vintage crop is being produced.

The vineyards are located on the Ravenna Bench, and a cottage retreat can also be rented for a minimum of three days to get a better taste of the view and of the wine.  Private tastings are currently available upon request.

If you are a wine connoisseur or interested in the beauty of farming grapes, book a private visit, order wine, or arrange for a tasting by calling 705-444-5200 or visit their website at rketchin@georgianhillsvineyards.ca.
