The Paralympic Torch Relay began yesterday in Ottawa and will conclude at the opening ceremonies in Vancouver on March 12, 2010. Lighting of the Paralympic flame in Ottawa involved torch bearers' representing each province and territory.
This is the first time that the Paralympic Torch has it's own unique emblem. The 2010 Paralympic Torch Emblem - "Spark Becomes Flame" - shows a human figure with its arms raised and joined, much like a candle flame. Contained within the arms is the glow of the fire within everyone symbolizing the moment when imaginations are ignited and dreams are born.
I would like to acknowledge and congratulate all athletes competing in the Games.
