I think this is a good step but agree with the assessment, we should always do our own follow up before signing or agreeing to anything when strangers come knocking at our doors.
NEW BY-LAW IN EFFECT: Door-to-door salespeople in BWG are now required to be licensed by the Town and carry Town-issued photo ID like the one in the attached photo. Licensing is intended to help protect residents; however, it does not constitute endorsement. Always do your own research before purchasing any product or service.
PLEASE NOTE: The Business Licensing By-law is NOT applicable to churches, political candidates, fundraisers (e.g. charities/schools/teams seeking donations or selling things to raise funds), etc. It applies only to companies/individuals selling a product or service for profit. You can contact the Town to report non-compliance at 905-775-5366 or post on this site - the more detail you have the easier it is for us to take action.
The By-law applies to anyone selling in BWG, regardless of where the business is located. For more on what the Business Licensing By-law covers and how businesses can get a licence, click here: bit.ly/1dohbqb
