Barrhaven is located in the south end of Ottawa, outside the greenbelt in what was formerly the City of Nepean.  Originally a farming area until the late 1960's when a small community was developed originally by the Builders Johanssen and Holitzner.  Since the late 60's Barrhaven has grown substantially and today is one of the significant growth regions of Ottawa.

Barrhaven is well linked to the City of Ottawa with exceptional road links and bus only transit to the downtown core.  Barrhaven also is home to one of Ottawa's 2 rail stationsFallowfield VIA Station. The station is on the main line from Ottawa to Toronto and is located adjacent to the Fallowfield Park and Ride.  Barrhaven is also only a short drive from the Ottawa International Airport.

The community house a wide variety of shopping experiences and several outstanding restaurants.  The RioCan Centre located at Greenbank and Strandherd is the centre of the community and a vibrant and expansive shopping centre with large box stores, smaller local business', fast food and restaurants as well as the Barrhaven Cineplex
