1) 407 expansion project
It’s looking like Highway 407 East is coming our way. Earlier this month, Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca announced the go ahead of the $1.2 billion project, which will do more than just bring the popular express toll route to Highway 35/115 South of Peterborough. Plans include multiple links between the expanded 407 route and the existing Highway 401, most notably Highway 418, a new North-South 10-kilometer link just East of Oshawa. Plans are aiming to have the new 407 expansion operational as far as Taunton Road by 2017, with the remaining stretch to Highway 35/115 to be completed three years later by 2020. Rumor has it that tolls are slated to be “cheaper” than what is currently being charged when traveling on the existing 407 ETR, a fact that the Transportation Minister says the government is committed to. Time will tell! Click here for more information.
