Thinking About Renting?

Thinking about Renting?

Here are some useful and proactive steps to consider before getting involved in the application process for renting a property:

- A completed rental application: This form sets out particulars that can be asked of a prospective tenant including details about the applicants and any other occupants, last two places of residence, present and prior employment, financial obligations, personal references and information about automobiles. Note that income information may only be requested if credit references and rental history are also requested.

- A current and up-to-date letter from your employer.

- A credit report from Equifax or TransUnion.

- Deposit: A monetary deposit, representing your first and last month’s rent, payable once an Offer to Lease is accepted.

For important information regarding deposits and other residential tenancy matters, consult the Ontario Residential Tenancies Act, 2006.
