forward thinking

Hello All, years ago when I was 19 , and taking my driver licence test in Montreal, I had a less than ordinary examiner.  He had tested many many drivers prior to me sitting in the seat of a 1966 Pontiac Parisienne with its broken seat mechanism , so no adjustment was possible.  I sat forward back straight and looked  ahead. Returning to the drivers centre, he said why did you leave all that space behind you?  Thinking he wanted me to back up close to the vehicle behind, I did just that reversed using my side mirrors.  I turned off the car and was ready to disembark from the vehicle, at which point the instructor said...do you always park in front of lane-ways? !!   I started to say..well you told  me ..... He then gave me a piece of unsolicited advice, always look forward, what is behind has past look forward  .
