Keeping A Busy and Growing World Small

Six degrees of separation is the idea that everyone is on average approximately six steps away, by way of introduction, from any other person in the world, so that a chain of "a friend of a friend" statements can be made, on average, to connect any two people in six steps or fewer.

There's something to be said about the above paragraph, as found on Wikipedia.

For starters, the line by way of introduction really gets me thinking about how important it is for me, a professional Realtor, to make introductions.  Introductions of all kinds.  Because without an introduction:

  • I won't get to know people and learn about their goals
  • People won't get to know me, so they won't be able to see how I can help them achieve their goals
  • There will be lots of lost Buyers and Sellers out there looking for direction

But, not to fear because I am not the type who doesn't make an introduction.

Years ago, while on a business trip in Chevy Chase, Maryland (yes, there really is a town called Chevy Chase, and I don't think they named it after the actor...I think it was the other way around), a colleague of mine were on an elevator.  After seeing me introduce myself to people at the airport, in the shuttle van and then in the elevator, she finally said, "Julie, do you have to talk to everyone you run into?"

I could have taken offense, but after realizing how much I had in common with all of the people I had met and how much fun I had along the way (while my co-worker was huffing and puffing about the delayed flight, the traffic and the number of stops on the way up to our floor), I realized that I was the one who was blessed and she was completely missing out.

It's been many years since that elevator episode, and I've made many sales since then.  But, when it all boils down to it, it's not just about making a sale.  It all starts with an introduction!  With the hustle and bustle of today's world, we can even make introductions on our computer.  Just this morning, I posted one of my listings on my Facebook wall.  And wouldn't you know it, a friend of mine commented that it was the house where he was born, where his parents bought new back in 1966.

What are the chances???  Just six steps away, I guess.  But, I never would have known this great information had I not made an introduction.

If you and I have not yet been introduced, won't you please give me a call?  I'd love to meet you!!
