So you have probably heard hype all over town about the new "smart grid" and "smart/advanced meters" that Fortis BC is installing city wide throughout Kelowna, right?
Well that might be because there really is not a whole lot of information being shared about them and they are not the hottest thing on the radio and news.
But now you know.
What you may not know, is a lot about these smart meters and their purpose and their side effects. There is much controversy surrounding these meters and a few primary issues that are targeted are: their safety (fire hazards), privacy breaches (monitoring of your home activity/ power limiting/ high billing) and last but not least, their health affects (constant, radiation emission throughout the day in microsecond bursts).
If Fortis BC utility guys come to your house today and tell you that they are installing a "smart meter" or "advanced meter" on your home today... maybe do a little research before you say, "yes go ahead".
I'm NOT saying you should NOT put it on your house, but there is definitely conflicting research out there regarding the health, privacy and safety aspects of these "advanced" meters. Perhaps some of these sources get a little conspiracy theory-like, BUT it's food for thought even at a basic level...... What do you think?
