Supplies are getting low as the number of clients in need continues to climb!

Dear Friends:

Ajax-Pickering Food Bank is Running Low on Supplies - big drop in donations over the summer.  The economy is hitting everyone hard and it has a trickle-down effect.  So far in 2014, the food bank has provided assistance to 6,340 Ajax and Pickering residents, compared to 5,263 at the same time last year. About 40 percent of the clients are children. Clients come from all walks of life and include people who are unemployed, the working poor, people with serious diseases such as cancer, those suffering from mental health challenges and people who've loss loved ones and unable to care for themselves or loved ones with no benefits or family to lean on.

I'm writing to you today because we know that our community is at its best when working together.  So please join me and my family to help raise AWARENESS and FOOD for the local food bank.  

What Can You Donate?

The food bank accepts all non-perishable items.  Please ensure that donations are in good condition and not past expiry dates...see below some examples including current needs: 

Breakfast cereal, Canned fruit, canned vegetables, Lunch snacks, Canned pasta, Baked beans, Pasta sauce, Stew, chili and hearty soups, Tea bags and coffee, Peanut utter, jam, Cheez Whiz, Cookies, crackers, Sugar, Flour, Rice, Dry Soup (Mr. Noodle, etc), Desserts (muffin or cake mix, jello), Juice, Kraft Dinner, Supplement Drinks, (Boost, Ensure, etc), Diapers (size 4 and up,  and Infant cereal).

FINANCIAL DONATIONS

Financial donations are gratefully appreciated. All money raised is used to cover general operating expenses which include rent, telephone, equipment upgrades and improvements.  The food bank also provides fresh milk and eggs for our clients every week and we purchase any food items needed between food drives. 

The food bank is staffed entirely by volunteers; there are no paid staff.  100% of funds raised are used for food bank operations.    Tax receipts will be issued for donations exceeding $10. Charitable #: 119 196 111 RR0001
