St. Boniface

St. Boniface is the French-speaking heart of Winnipeg, and is the largest French-speaking community west of Thunder Bay.  It features such landmarks as the Cathédrale de Saint Boniface (St. Boniface Cathedral), Boulevard Provencher, the Provencher Bridge, Esplanade Riel, St. Boniface Hospital, the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface and the Royal Canadian Mint. To the east of the community are Winnipeg’s major industrial areas, including the Refinery and the Stockyards. Most of Central St Boniface was built at the turn of the century, with some buildings in Old St Boniface earlier than that. St. Boniface covers the southeast part of the city and includes le Vieux Saint-Boniface (Old St. Boniface), Norwood and Norwood Flats, plus a large industrial area. The Norwood area is a nice residential area with well-maintained homes on tree-lined streets, and the riverside Lyndale Drive (along the River) is popular with runners and cyclists.

St. Boniface makes up a community of roughly 4,600 single family residential homes. Please see the Interactive Property Map for more information.

For the lifestyle choice of condominiums, St. Boniface offers many condo community choices, with styles to suit every taste and budget. They are located throughout the area with easy access to all the amenities and transportation offered in this neighbourhood.

St. Boniface schools are managed by the Louis Riel School Division and the Division Scolaire Franco-Manitobaine with the exceptions of Beautiful Savior Lutheran School, Holy Cross School, Springs Christian Academy and St. Boniface Diocesan High School.  Within the Louis Riel School Division there are six schools, Archwood School (K-8), Nelson McIntyre Collegiate (9-12), Nordale School (K-8), Marion School (K-8), École Henri-Bergeron (M-6) and École Provencher (M-8). Within the Division Scolaire Franco-Manitobaine there are two schools, École Taché and École Précieux-Sang.

There is a nice shopping district along Boulevard Provencher, and the Dominion Shopping Centre by the Norwood Bridge. All the shopping opportunities downtown are also close-by.

The community has a wide range of recreational opportunities, with Whittier Park along the Red River on the north, and several parks along the Seine River, cycling along Lyndale drive, winter skating on the Red River & Assiniboine River, walks along the pretty riverside promenade along Avenue Tache. The St Boniface Golf Club and the municipal Windsor Park golf courses are just south of the community, along the banks of the Seine River. From a cultural perspective, the Centre culturel Franco-Manitobaine puts on theatrical productions, and the St Boniface Museum portrays the area’s French history.
