Saskatoon is fast becoming one of Canada's top food mecca's and the choices are endless. Downtown Saskatoon in particular, is home to over 100 restaurants and is fast becoming one of the 'it' places to be. There's even a website dedicated to reviews of every restaurant downtown Saskatoon has to offer. The guys at Lunchography.com are up to 45 reviews and show no signs of slowing down.
This past year, downtown Saskatoon has seen a host of new restaurants popping up from the New Orleans inspired Bon Temps Cafe to the authentic Italian eatery La Bottega Trattoria and the gluten & nut-free option of Leyda. New additions also include Congress Beer Pub, Woodfire Grill, State & Main, Bell & Whistle, Wood's Alehouse, and Mediterrano.
With the recent bylaw passing of food trucks allowed on the streets, the prevalance of food on wheels is becoming the norm. Pineapple Express, Joyride, and Disco Dogs are just to name a few.
If you happen to think that this wasn't enough, there are more options in the works to inspire your palette. The chain Smoke's Poutinerie is set to open up this year, along with a Catcus Club going in the space west of Midtown Plaza, and the much anticipated Ayden Kitchen & Bar owned by Saskatoon's own Dale McKay (also the winner of Season 1 of Top Chef Canada). The menu will consist of elevated comfort food as well as charcuterie - freshly butchered meat and a selection of carefully selected cheeses. This one I'm especially looking forward to!
