The Southeast corner of 14th Ave. and Middlefield Road was always a fun place to go with family and friends; when it was a golf range. We would hit some balls, practice some putting, work on our technique and just have a good time. You may notice the golf range is not there anymore but the fun does not stop there. That's because it is being transformed into a state of the art, 121,000 square foot community centre, library and park!
A groundbreaking ceremony was held in early December with Mayor Frank Scarpitti and members of council and now the city needs your help naming the facility! That sounds like fun! Visit the City of Markham's website under the Municipal Government tag; click on Major city projects and the Southeast Community Centre and Park. Scroll to the right and you will see 4 easy steps to follow. You can submit your entry online or directly via regular mail to the Commissioner of Fire and Community Services. Good luck as the deadline is set for January 31st, 2014.
More engaging places for children and the community as a whole only makes it a better place to live. I simply cannot wait for this new centre to make its mark in Markham.
