Thornhill Woods is one of many new suburban developments springing up north of the established Thornhill-Vaughan suburbs. It is defined as the area bordered by Highway 7, Bathurst St., Dufferin Rd. and Major Mackenzie Dr.
The south part of Thornhill Woods is filled with new homes, from townhouses to detached double-garage homes. The north part is still under development.
The Thornhill Woods area is so new that its population statistics aren't included in the 2001 census. The next full census is in 2011 and will include more detailed information about this neighbourhood. However, urban planners predict that by the end of 2006, there will be an estimated 17,489 people living in the south block of Thornhill Woods. Thornhill Woods has a large concentration of young families who have moved into their first or second homes. Most of these families have small children.
New strip malls, gas stations and shopping areas are springing up all around Thornhill Woods to feed the demand for convenient shopping. In addition to Sobey's, Rutherford Village also has a drug store and convenience stores. The Promenade Mall in Thornhill-Vaughan and Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill are also close by for shopping.
Thornhill Woods is good if you enjoy living in a suburban setting and you don't mind driving. Highway 7 and the express toll route Highway 407 are minutes away from Thornhill Woods. By car, a trip downtown takes about 45 minutes. However, if you live in Thornhill Woods and don't have a car, you would have to use York Region Transit to get in and out.
