A tough break for those working at the Western Fair Raceway. At least 20 jobs have been cut even though the racetrack had recently secured transitional funding and signed a commercial lease. The loss of jobscome as a result of the Liberals canceling the slots-at-the-racetrack program, causing more than a few tracks across Ontario to close up shop. We spoke with Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton about the issue.
Meanwhile some jobs have bee spared from the chopping block. Premier Kathleen Wynn recently made new funding agreements with racetracks in Hamilton, Barrie an the Niagara areas, bringing the total number of racetracks with funding agreements to nine. However, there's no word if Western Fair Raceway will get the same kind of treatment.
