Summer is finally here and we are experiencing some beautiful sunny, but very hot and humid days! Not that I'm complaining, but it can be a challenge to keep your home cool through these temperatures! Here are some quick and easy tips to keeping your home cool and reducing energy costs during the hot and humid weather!
When you are out for the day keep your blinds and drapes closed! This will reduce the amount of heat that enters the home from the sun beating on your glass windows while you are away!
Keep your temperature steady, we have a tendancy to reach for the thermostat when we get a little warm but if you keep the thermostat steady at a comfortable temperature you will reduce the costs of cooling your home!
Clean filters! Whether you have central air conditioning or window air conditioners ensure that your filters are clean! Just it is important to have a clean filter during the winter months...ensuring your filter is clean during the warmer weather will reduce the stress on your system and allow more cool air to get to you!
Get a thermostat with a timer! You can purchase thermostats that will allow you to change the temperature during the day when you are not even home! Set it to reduce the use when you are leaving for the day and then set it to cool the home down again about an hour before you are expected home each day so that when you get there, you have a cool, comfortable home but you haven't had it "cranked" all day, thus reducing your energy costs!
