Colour trends for 2012

Now is the time of year you start to think about renovating your home or maybe just redecorating. Here are some colour trends to watch out for in 2012.

The trend for 2012 is to combine vibrant hues like red, turquoise and golds with more balanced nuetrals such as greys, browns and warm whites. If you are hesitant to paint an entire room or even accent wall in one of these bright colours, accent pieces can make a major impact.  Think pillows, throws, curtains or scatter rugs, all are inexpensive and can still acheive the desired affect.

Try mixing textures in 2012!  Combine materials like stainless steel, wood, velvet and silky fabrics to create chic contrasts in your home. Be unique, show off your personality!!!    Look around your home and rediscover some of the pieces you love.  Maybe that vase that has been in the living room forever, would look great in the spare room.    Once again these are quick and inexpensive things that can a real difference.

This is not a trend, as it never goes out of style.   A couple of tricks I use are:  I don't put a new piece of clothing in my closet without removing something.  And, I always have a bag downstairs to go to goodwilll.  So if I take that piece of clothing out of my closet that I no longer wear, I immediately walk it downstairs to the goodwill bag.  Remember, when the bag is full, donate it and start another right away.  De-cluttering will make your home appear larger, claener and more welcoming.
