We just returned from a great weekend in Eastern Prince Edward Island. We stayed at a friends cottage in North Lake, which is about 15 minutes past Souris. It really is a beautiful part of the Island, it certainly feels like a real vacation but still an easy drive from Charlottetown.
Our cottage was right at the feet of the windmills up there, felt like we were in a Pink Floyd video (this is a good thing). I didn't even know there were windmills up there. The hum of them at night is very soothing, nice white noise but not loud enough to be annoying.
We had this entire private beach to ourselves, not another person to be seen. I was happy to see a little reminder of home though, out there in the wilderness:
Of course we had to visit Basin Head, and let Rob relive his youth. I jumped off this when I was a teenager but those days are long gone!
This is more my speed these days:
Our boys had a great time, especially loved the bonfire in the evening.
If you have a chance to visit Eastern PEI this summer, whether you are a tourist or a native, it is well worth the trip. (If you want information about renting the cottage we stayed at, I can put you in touch with the owners, just drop me a line).
