I recently had the pleasure to listen to a few local Red Deer residents talk about our city and where its going. I had the opportunity one afternoon to listen to Mayor Morris Flewwelling talk about Red Deer and his future goals for our great city. He explained what his and councils goals are for this year and the next few. With any business its important to have goals for the short and long term. My Flewwelling is very well spoken and if you have never had the opportunity to hear him you are missing out.
One of the items he talked about was future expansion and infrastructure. He spoke of future developments and how many years they are ahead. One of the interesting things he talked about to me was the roads ways. The most interesting spot for me was the downtown area where Taylor Drive comes into the downtown by the Carnival Cinemas. The city is planning a redevelopment of that area, to clean it up and make it more vibrant. Love that plan. The downtown core is so important to any city and Red Deer is no different. Other notable areas are on 32nd Street where a few traffic circles are being talked about. The plan it to keep traffic moving. Mayor Morris again was terrific.
Another one of the speakers that day was Dan Ouwehand. Dan is the president of the Central Alberta Chapter of CHBA (Canadian Home Builders Association). Dan had the opportunity to speak alongside the mayor and spoke of what was new and coming in the new home industry. Dan wrote a great blog about Mayor Morris’s speak. Take a few moments and give it a read: Dinner with the Mayor

The point: Red Deer is a great city that is expanding at a good safe rate. We are in good hands with a progressive council.
