CHRISTMAS SPIRIT, VOLUNTEERING IN AN AMAZING COMMUNITY - FESTIVAL OF TREES

Every year for the last 20 Years, the Christmas Season in Central Alberta starts off like no other! I have lived in quite a few communities across Canada and I have never seen anything like the efforts of the Red Deer Regional Hospital Foundation for this annual fundraiser- THE FESTIVAL OF TREES.   There is something for everyone! Each event adds its own magic, offering so much to the Festival as a whole.

Kids Activities

The kick off includes the SANTA CLAUSE PARADE, with Children’s Activities, Entertainment, Hot Chocolate and the LIGHTING OF THE BIGGEST CHRISTMAS TREE.  THE FATHER AND DAUGHTER DANCE - MISTLETOE MAGIC is one of the more enchanting moments, when Daddy’s little girls get to dress up like princesses and dance the night away with their favorite men!  What would a Festival be without BREAKFAST WITH SANTA?!  It’s fun for the whole family with loads of activities and entertainment. SANTA’S SECRET SHOPPE is so much fun for the little ones to get their shopping done!  With the guidance of a personal shopper they are sure to find special surprises for their family and friends.  All items are less than $10.00 and are specially crafted in Santa’s workshop.

Besides the featured events, there are daily activities that require hundreds of volunteers to keep the magic flowing.  One of my daughter’s favorites is CANDY CANE LANE.  There are festive games, arts and crafts for children of all ages.  It never ceases to amaze me the patience of the Volunteers as they host thousands of children with activities including; face painting, cookie decorating and more.

Family and Friends

There are many Spectacular Festival Events great for gathering your friends together!  CIRQUE DE NOEL includes multiple performance hubs with a Ring Master, circus acts, street entertainment and of course, a special “Cirque de Noel Menu” of eclectic food!   ‘TIS THE SEASON FASHION LUNCHEON is a great time to gather the ladies together for a wonderful lunch, a fashion show and of course a visit. There are great door prizes and raffle items. Plus you can shop in the gift store and peruse the beautifully decorated tree room.  During the Festival one of the evenings is dedicated to some of the best restaurants in Red Deer allowing you the opportunity to savor some of the finest food and beverages at THE TASTE OF RED DEER.  This is a very affordable night out and is a wonderful way to enjoy great food and support the event!  THE FESTIVAL OF WINES is easily my favourite event!  Need I say more? Wine tasting in a festival atmosphere. The evening includes appetizers, live and silent auctions, raffles and an on-site wine store.

The main highlight is of course the professionally decorated and themed Christmas Trees.  These are on Auction and displayed for the entire event.  Non-stop Christmas Music and family friendly entertainment with children from school choirs and other performers is ongoing daily on the Main Stage during the entire event.

Be sure to check out the SWEET SHOP and the GIFT SHOP where you will find all kinds of Christmas treasures including handcrafted items by local artists, many great gift ideas and fabulous treats!  There are items available in every price range.

Senior Appreciation

Let’s not forget our seniors!  THE SILVER BELLS TEA is a special Open House for the community seniors to walk about the Festival Tree Room and Gift Shop.  They are treated to refreshments, special entertainment, raffles and door prizes.

Networking

There is a special PREVIEW DINNER that is a formal gala evening designed for all of the hundreds of event sponsors.  In addition to the dinner, there is a Live Auction and Silent Auction.  One of my close friends works year round on this auction and for 5 days before the event, we have a team of volunteers who display an array of one of a kind Items generously donated from community businesses.

THE FESTIVAL BUSINESS LUNCH is a wonderful place for the business community to kick off the festive season.  Lunch with your colleagues, clients, staff, and network with the other businesses in the community and be touched by the speaker who offers up a true life/motivating success story.

The Consider it Done Team likes to support community events year round.  Besides volunteering our Team donates to the Silent Auction as does our parent company, Century 21 Advantage, who has always been a proud sponsor.  This year my involvement as a volunteer is setting up and working with the organizers of the Silent Auction.

This seasonal event is way more than a fundraiser- it is just as much a community spirit builder as it is a way to support the special demands of the Hospital.  Everyone works collaboratively, the Sponsors, the Organizers and the 2500+ Volunteers.  Each should take pride in their efforts which really do make a difference!  Last year the Festival of Trees raised $1,225,000 for the hospital.  This Year… let’s see what we can do!  Come out and Participate, Volunteer, Donate, or just come and witness one of the most spectacular events and share the pride!
