The link below is a message that touched my heart. For those of you who don’t know, I have a little girl who is in the Autism Spectrum due to a brain disorder since birth. She is developmentally delayed with an array of complex challenges. What many of us take for granted every day, (like speaking and printing), she struggles with. Because of all of her difficulties we have grown immensely, not only our patience, but our knowledge and especially our empathy. We have always spoken openly about her challenges in the hope that it will alleviate the fear and misunderstandings people have when they encounter someone with differences. This message is about the word RETARD(ED) and eloquently touches on the feelings we have when we hear the word used in jest.
