Upgrading? Downsizing? Going through a
divorce? Regardless of the reasons you are moving on or up, moving can be a
stressful transition. Make things easier on yourself with a little preparation.
- Organize and Prioritize
It’s much easier to maintain a sense of control and deal with frustration and unforeseen circumstances when you have things planned out. Write down all the things you need to get done for your move. Re-evaluate your list and see if there are any items that can wait until after the move. Consider using a notebook with a pocket, that way you can make lists and keep your moving receipts organized.
Having to go through all your stuff to pack it up is a good opportunity to get rid of those things that you don’t use and don’t need that are just taking up space. Consider donating clothes, toys, furniture, tools and even food that isn’t getting eaten!
Label the boxes with the names of the room they are going into, and make sure you mark whether or not they contain fragile items! This makes it easy for anyone who happens to pick up the box to know how to treat it and where to take it.
- Enlist Help
Let your family and friends know you are moving and ask them for help. Whether it’s packing, cleaning, or heavy lifting- the more people you get involved the easier things will go. This is why it’s also important to be organized! You don’t want your movers to show up to help you move while you are still in the middle of packing!
- Even Better- Hire a Moving Company!
A good moving company can help you with anything you need; whether it’s providing you with packaging materials, packing your belongings, or just moving your items to their new location- they will even disassemble and reassemble your furniture if need be. - Keep up Your
Too often people forget to eat or don’t get enough sleep when dealing with hectic situations. Don’t let this be you! Make sure you take care of yourself during the process.
Good Luck with Your Move!!
Consider it Done!
