On January 15th, 2013, Markham at the Movies will be featuring the film The Intouchables at the Flato Markham Theatre (171 Town Centre Boulevard) from 7pm to 9pm.
Starring François Cluzet, Omar Sy and Anne Le Ny, this is a French comedy and drama film about a quadriplegic aristocrat living in Paris who holds interviews for a live-in caregiver. A young candidate, who has no serious intention of obtaining the job, shows up. Much to the young man's surprise, he is hired. The aristocrat later learns that his caregiver served 6 months in jail for a robbery, but he does not care because the young man is the only person he has met who does not treat him with pity. Over time, the two men develop an unlikely but close friendship.
This film, directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano, broke box office records across the globe when it was first released in 2011. At the Toronto International Film Festival, it won 5 awards, including the TIFF People's Choice Award.
Markham at the Movies is a partner of the Toronto International Film Festival Film Circuit, and an initiative of the Markham Arts Council to bring critically-acclaimed TIFF films to Markham residents' doorsteps. A different movie will be featured once a month until May 2013.
