The 6th day of our feature! It's really been so enjoyable so far, not just to meet with some of our local entrepreneurs but to get up close and personal with them and it's really been that of an inspiring theme from each of them. Nothing better than that in our heart of hearts in the month of love! Today we met with Michael (Mike) Tobin of Michael Tobin Law Office located at 254 Commercial Street, North Sydney, NS. Mike was wonderful to speak with and a great part of our community. He has been working in Cape Breton since 1985 and situated at his current location since 1990!
Here is what Mike had to say to us today:
Tell us about why you started this venture:
I have always enjoyed the fundamentals of law and real estate in particular. When I first began, I was operating in a larger firm with around 5 solicitors and I found I spent most of my time with them working on the registry of deeds and property law so it felt natural to branch off and deal in property law.
Tell us what it is that you offer/bring to Cape Breton:
I would like to think that I bring good service and timely advice. I work a lot of hours to try and make sure all my work is looked after.
Any big plans coming up?:
(LOL) Not really no, business as usual.
What is the most important thing you learned about running your own business in Cape Breton?:
The most important thing that I learned, both myself and throughout my work with the public, is that you have to manage the business side to a business as well. It's not the easiest thing to explain but so many do not take the time to really watch how the business is doing and taking an active role in making it succeed. Also, having a good support staff/team is essential.
What are your favorite things to do or places to visit in Cape Breton when you are not busy running your business?
I like to golf and visit places like Inverness and Port Hood. Those are my favorite things to do when I am not working.
Thank you so much Mike for speaking with us today and sharing some wise words with the local community!
