As we continue into February, we would like to make you aware of a well-established local business, Galpin Electric. I had the pleasure of speaking with Jason Newman, manager/partner of Galpin Electric located at 150 Queen Street, North Sydney. This family-owned business has been operating in Cape Breton for many years providing excellent customer service and expertise in the electrical field.
Here is what Jason had to say:
Tell us about why you started this venture:
After spending many years working for different companies involving different occupations, I decided to venture into a career that offers diversity; a career where my success is determined solely on my involvement in the company.
Tell us what it is that you offer/bring to Cape Breton:
Stability is one of our greatest assets. We've been an electrical contractor in business since 1967. We have created a customer base that relies on our ability to complete a job on budget and on time. We also offer diversity and are able to take on projects involving every aspect of the electrical field ranging from new-home construction, residential re-wiring, commercial and industrial.
Any big plans coming up?
In the near future, I plan to create a retail store in our area that will provide more then the typical odds and ends that can be purchased from our current local outlets.
We also hope to branch out into different aspects of home construction, such as ventilation and plumbing within the next few years.
What is the most important thing you learned about running your own business in Cape Breton:
I feel it is very important to maintain customer loyalty as most new customers are the result of referrals and word of mouth advertising.
The majority of people in our local area appreciate doing business with a hands-on, family run business.
What are your favorite things to do or places to visit in Cape Breton when you are not busy running the business?:
I spend most of my free time at home tinkering with my house or vehicles. Being part of a family business, I am also involved with my family outside of work as well. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my son, who is turning 5 soon. He is the most important part of my life, so everything i do is centered on him and his future.
Thank you very much Jason, for taking the time out of your busy day to speak with us.
