OZ: The Great And Powerful & The Incredible Burt Wonderstone
With so much high-quality Audio / Visual equipment available for your home theatre, it is easy to get caught up in the hype and process of building your own system. With the shades drawn, and a pantry full of munchies, one can get lost in the HD glow emanating from the tv-room. This week, however, we were reminded about the draw of the cinema! Twice, we found ourselves out with friends, enjoying the company, crowds, concession stands, and REALLY BIG picture and sound of our local Cineplex.
OZ: The Great And Powerful
Having been a fan of the very popular The Wizard of Oz movie and even the lesser known 1985 Walt Disney release of Return to Oz movie, the idea of a prequel is very exciting! It was an opportunity to relive some of that magic remembered from childhood! So, with a group of friends, we corralled the kids, put on the 3D glasses, and went to Oz!
It was not disappointing! And you’ll get no spoilers from me! If you haven’t heard about it yet, and really need to know more, check out; http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1623205/ . Honestly, as an adult, I was fully entertained, and I feel the experience was much better seeing it in the theatre. The kids also had a blast. There were some really good scenes that caused some entertaining outbursts among them. We had a good range of ages with us… from 5 to 50 years old. We were all satisfied.
Be advised! The Kids Popcorn-Combo no longer included a Kinder Egg. Amongst the kids, I think that was the only downfall. Otherwise, it was truly a great night out.
SIDE NOTE!! The Cineplex Classic Film Series will be playing the original The Wizard of Oz on April 14th & 17th. For $6 a ticket, it shouldn’t be missed!
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone
Let’s face it! Even if Oz was a great movie experience, dragging a group of kids out is a little bit like work. So it was time to hit the theatre for some grown-up time. I confess, I did suggest just staying in to watch a rental on the HD, but the theatre was the popular option.
Feeling in the mood for a laugh, we decided on The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, starring Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, and Jim Carey. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0790628/
Getting out to the theatre mid-week was a much quieter experience, and there was a lot more room in the theatre. All in all, the movie was funny, we weren’t crowded, and it was a great time to relax and enjoy a laugh. If you were a fan of the Carey/Carell movies Bruce/Evan Almighty, then you’ll likely enjoy Wonderstone.
SIDE NOTE!! The previews were truly exciting!! Kick-Ass 2 will be released soon (also co-starring Jim Carey). And The Hangover 3 is also on its way! It might be another excuse to get a babysitter and head out to the Cineplex.
