April Recipe: Spring Sangria

Some drinks just bring warm weather to mind, and sangria is one of them. As soon as patio season begins, expect to see people on patios enjoying a pitcher of wine mixed with various fresh fruits.

There are two things about sangria that are particularly great. One of those things is that it’s perfect for sharing- the ideal drink for sitting outside with friends, or an afternoon party.

But the second selling point of sangria is that its endlessly customizable. Don’t like pineapple? Leave it out! Prefer white wine to red? No problem! There are many options for this versatile drink!

Here is one of my favourite “Berry Sangria” recipes, just in time for the start of patio season ;)

1 bottle chilled mild red wine (white wine can be substituted)

1 apple, cubed

1 cup sliced strawberries

1 cup raspberries

1 cup blueberries

1 cup blackberries

3/4 cup brandy

2 cups lemon-lime soda or soda water

              Ice to chill when served

Mix wine, brandy and fruit together and chill for an hour. Before serving add ice and either lemon-lime soda or soda water. Garnish with fresh mint, strawberry or a lime wedge! Enjoy! :)
