Holiday Recipes: Surprise Dip

I wanted to share another recipe with you on my blog this week.  Since we are in “Holiday” mode, I thought I would share one of my favorite holiday appetizer recipes. “Appetizer” parties are my all time favourite! I host gatherings several times a year where we only eat finger food. It’s a fun, social get together centered around delicious food! Christmas is the perfect time to host an “Appy” party! Here is a simple delicious dip that is one of my (and my friends!) favourites! I don’t really have a recipe written down for this dip as I always make it from memory but here are some general guidelines. Customize by adding less or more of your favourite ingredients.

Surprise Dip

Layer 1: Mix 2 cups (16oz container) of sour cream with 1 block of cream cheese. Mix well with mixer on medium speed until fairly smooth. Add 1 1/2 tbsp of taco seasoning and beat together.  (Can use more or less taco seasoning to customize taste)

Once layer one is mixed, use spatula to smooth into the bottom of a 9 X 12 rectangular glass casserole dish or round glass dish

Layer 2- 1 jar (aprox. 2 cups) of your favourite salsa (If you like spicy, use a HOT salsa, if you prefer more of a mild taste, use a MEDIUM or MILD salsa

Layer 3- Fresh tomatoes, diced small and spread evenly over salsa layer

Layer 4- Yellow, red & orange bell peppers diced small and spread evenly over salsa and tomatoes

Layer 5- Grated cheddar or marble cheese. Enough to cover pan completely (aprox. 2-3 cups grated. Can use more or less to customize taste)

Top Layer- 3 or 4 chopped green onions spread over cheese (just to add some colour and flavour!) Again, feel free to use more or less depending on taste you prefer!

Serve chilled with taco chips, baguette or pita chips!

Enjoy!!!! :)
