Snowmobiling in the County

I have the distinct pleasure of enjoying the winter because of my love of snowmobiling.  I first encountered this activity over 20 years ago.  Back then my sled was a heavy, cumbersome thing, my boots were never warm enough and my helmet was always fogging with my breath on the visor.

Flash forward to today and you'll find me sledding in much more comfort.  Although I ride an older machine (95 Polaris XLT, 600cc), it has heated handgrips, reverse and electric start.  If I fall off a trail into the deep now I can back up and get going again.  My helmet has a heated visor so I can always see where I'm going.  And a combination of Baffin boots and a Choko snowmobile suit means I'm never cold.

I'm a member of the local snowmobile club and have been President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Webmaster over the past 10 years.  A dedicated group of volunteers help to maintain the 220kms of trails on which I ride.  We have a poker run every year and a Landowner Appreciation Dance.  So much fun!

If winter gets you down and you can't even imagine spring, try getting out and playing in it.  I find it makes the season a joy, not a burden.  Now if I could find a way to keep my hair nice and my clothes smelling like something other than snowmobile exhaust, I could ride to work too!
