Having bought properties with and without home inspections, there is a case to be made that they are not always needed. If you have been in the construction industry or have family that are, or you have educated yourself on what is proper when it comes to HVAC, electrical, plumbing and structure. For most people, a home inspection is a wise decision when purchasing your next home, it is a way of helping determine if it's the right purchase for you.
If you do not have a great knowledge of these things, I would 100% recommend a good home inspector. When choosing a home inspector, I would recommend finding one that is invested in the local community, they know they area, and also they are familiar with many of the properties already, (many homes built at the same time can share the same problems). Getting references is always advised, and ask your local realtors, as well as others in the community to get the whole picture. Always keep in mind, there is usually no warranty with a home inspection, and a home inspector is usually not an expert in all fields of home construction, they just give you a general idea of the overall shape of the property. For any alarming problems with sewer, HVAC, plumbing, electrical etc, it does not hurt to get a second opinion from a professional in that field. As always, do your own research and get the help of a home inspector in the next big purchase of your life, it will give you a little peace of mind!
