Many people have asked me while buying their home, "Why don't people Renovate?"
On several occasions I will walk into a home with a buyer and notice that some homes are almost never renovated, even after 20 years. In my opinion, people get caught up with life and forget that their biggest investment is their home and they need renovate just like you would a Car (Oil Change).
Real Estate and Personal wealth has evolved significantly in the last 10 years. More people today have more money than they did 10 years ago. More people have Iphones, Fancy cars, property ownership and expensive clothing. Are we living a life that competes against the Jones'? Caution folks! This is another conversation but definitely a recipe for disaster.
HGTV, TLC and other like Networks have given us ideas and thoughts about How we should live. There are several Apps out there as well that offer design templates and styles that we have now made an expectation when were shopping for homes.
Buyers in the market want to walk into a home and feel like it's theirs already. They want to have that feeling. Not everyone wants the IKEA do it yourself property.
Hence the need to renovate!
If you have been living in a home that is 10 years or older it is important for you to start renovating. You don't want your home to be old and Dull, especially if you one day decide to sell.
Tip: The avg Canadian moves every 7 years!
1. Paint your home once a year or every 2 years.
2. Install Rods at your windows so you can take advantage of you new style Window Draperies. If you install blinds you are stuck with them until that little piece at the top breaks.
3. Caulk, your bathroom tubs and clean the grout between tiles.
4. Hire a home inspector every 3-4 years to look at your home and inspect for major or minor defects that you may not notice.
