One of the prettiest neighbourhoods in Markham...Well-established with tree-lined streets, a fantastic 9 hole golf course, an outstanding school, trails, a community centre and a short walk to Starbucks? This is Legacy!
Located in the Boxgrove area, the neighbourhood of Legacy is situated between Markham Rd. and old 9th Line on both the north and south sides of 14th Ave.
Legacy continues to be a sought after area in Markham. When you enter Legacy via the 9th Line entrance, you are instantly struck by the attractive large trees and well-maintained flower beds which host at least 100 tulips every spring. Drive a half block down Rouge Bank Drive and you will notice Legacy Public School . Opened in 2006, this school is one of Markham's finest, excelling in both academics and sports…In fact, Legacy P.S. is home to at least 100 banners in volleyball and basketball for both boys and girls.
Continue your drive (or stroll) down Rouge Bank Drive, and you will quickly stumble upon two baseball fields, a basketball court, a playground structure with gazebo and in the winter – a large neighbourhood ice-skating rink built and maintained by the residents of Legacy.
Further along, you will see Markham Green which is the old IBM Golf Course. It is a picturesque 9-hole course that runs along the Rouge River providing a natural habitat for a wide range of wildlife.
Sharing it’s home beside the Markham Green Clubhouse is the Rouge River Community Centre, which offers a variety of classes for both adults and children throughout the year…and swimming in the summer months.
And, if you enjoy taking your kids to community events like my wife and I do, then you’ll want to mark your calendars for the Legacy Winter Festival (February 13th, 2011), which features Clydesdales pulling a sleigh and ice skating…the Legacy Summer Festival (Sunday, June 12th, 2011/1:30pm-4:00pm), complete with food vendors, entertainment and bouncy castles…and the Annual Corn Roast (August 2011), complimentary with burgers and hot dogs, too!
With beautiful surroundings and a strong community, it's easy to see why Legacy is a legendary place to live in Markham.
